Water Extraction & Mold Remediation in Cape Coral, FL

ServiceMaster Restorations received a called to a home in Cape Coral, FL that had mold growing on the ceiling of the garage, in the vehicle that was parked in the garage, the walls and contents in the garage.  The homeowner was unsure of when the problem occurred as they live out of state and flew in to find the mold growth in their garage.  The source of the mold is believed to be from an air conditioning unit that leaked into the garage.  ServiceMaster extracted the water from the garage.  The water technicians then started the structural drying.  Once the structure was dry, ServiceMaster’s mold remediation technicians tore out all of the affected drywall, removed and properly disposed of all the contents that were affected by the mold.  After the removal, the next step was remediation.  Mold remediation includes sanding 1/32” of wood to remove the mold spore.  After this is complete, a growth inhibitor is then painted on the affected areas.  The whole garage was then cleaned with a hepa vacuum and wiped down with an antimicrobial solution.  An air quality test was than performed on the garage to make sure that it was free of all mold spores.  The garage passed the air quality test the first time and ServiceMaster started the reconstruction of the garage, which includes hanging drywall, painting, etc. to get the garage back to where it was before the mold damage.  The vehicle that was parked in the garage had mold growth and was sent to a dealership for remediation.  ServiceMaster helped the dealership in the mold remediation of the vehicle.

Water damage to 5 condo units in Fort Myers, FL

On Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10:32am ServiceMaster Restorations received a call from a large condo association in Fort Myers.  A sprinkler system pipe had broken in a fourth floor unit and the water was progressing downward through the third and second floors.  ServiceMaster technicians were dispatched and arrived on site within 20 minutes to begin the extraction process.  Upon arrival it was quite clear that besides the water extraction that needed to be done they had a bigger problem, no power.  The technicians immediately called the office and we loaded up the 40kw generator and had it on site and powered up within the hour thus supplying all 5 units with the power we would need to run the drying equipment.
The pipe that burst was located in the foyer of the condo unit on the fourth floor flooding the entire condo unit.  The other units were affected to varying degrees, all the units had carpet and tile floors and the tile floors had cork under the tile.  Cork cannot be dried effectively so all those floors will have to be entirely removed.  All the carpeting and pad had to be removed in the effected rooms, the pad will have to be replaced and the carpet reinstalled once the drying process is complete.
In order to facilitate the drying process ServiceMaster technicians would place 55 air movers and 10 dehumidifiers which would be monitored over the following days.  In addition to placing equipment our technicians would remove baseboards in many rooms and installed ½” small holes into the drywall under where the baseboards would be, in order to pump hot air under the drywall into the wall cavity to assure that not only the drywall but the base plates and studs were dried to protect the units from the possibility of mold growth.  After all the walls were completely dried, the baseboards would be reinstalled.
A short seven days after the event all five units are ready for rebuild.  ServiceMaster Restorations stands ready and willing to facilitate that rebuild should the condo association need our help.

CE Class – Water Damage Mitigation for Manufactured Homes

ServiceMaster is offering CE Classes on Water Damage Mitigation for Manufactured Homes.

We would like to offer you an opportunity to lower your loss ratio and improve the service you provide to your insured.  We have created a training program designed to educate you and your staff about how to reduce the size of many of your property losses when dealing with a manufactured home, either modular or mobile.  The concept is called loss mitigation.  In this class, you will learn just how much damage water can cause and what steps can be taken to reduce or minimize the damage in manufactured homes.

Your insured may not understand what construction methods make manufactured homes unique.  Those unique features may impact the types of decisions that are made during water mitigation.
If a Mitigation Specialist is called within 24 hours of a water loss, many dollars can be saved.  Mitigation Specialists are trained to understand manufactured homes and to stabilize the damage and keep it from becoming worse.  The result is less damage, lower cost, improved loss ratios and satisfied policyholders.
The class will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 2:00pm – 5:00PM at Hawthorne Suites, 3557 Pine Ridge Rd, Naples, FL 34109.
